What NAD+ is

NAD+ is short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It's a coenzyme — a small molecule that works alongside an enzyme rather than being one — and the "dinucleotide" in the name is literal: two nucleotides joined at their phosphate groups. The nicotinamide half belongs to the same chemical family as vitamin B3.

A lot of this category is sold as a precursor instead, shortened on the label to NR or NMN. This panel lists NAD+ itself, at 500mg per two-capsule serving, and that's the number printed on the front of the bottle.

Resveratrol, and where it comes from

Resveratrol is a stilbene — one of the polyphenol compounds a plant makes in its own tissue. Grape skin is the source most people know it by. Japanese knotweed, Polygonum cuspidatum, is the source the supplement industry actually draws on, and the root is the part extracted.

"Standardized to 98% resveratrol" means the extract is manufactured to a set concentration rather than left to whatever a given harvest yields. 98% is the figure this panel prints, and the dose is 150mg of that extract per serving.

The quercetin

Quercetin is a flavonoid, one of the plant pigment compounds that also turn up in onions, apples, capers and tea. "Dihydrate" describes the crystal — quercetin with two water molecules built into its structure, which is the stable form used in capsules. This one is extracted from the whole flower bud of Sophora japonica, the Japanese pagoda tree, at 250mg per serving.

How it's taken

Two capsules daily with water. There's no flavor to get used to and no shaker to wash. The capsule shell is HPMC — hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, made from plant cellulose rather than gelatin — which is why the bottle reads vegan. The rest of the ingredient line is what makes a capsule fill and flow evenly: microcrystalline cellulose, brown rice flour, olive oil, silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate.
