The two greens on the front

Alfalfa is a deep-rooted legume grown for forage; what's in here is the organic leaf, dried and milled, and it leads the 1g Herbal Blend. Chlorella is a single-celled freshwater green algae with a tough cell wall, and it sits in the 900mg Sea Vegetable Blend next to spirulina — a blue-green algae — and sea whistle (Ascophyllum nodosum), a brown seaweed.

Both sit inside blends, so the panel gives each blend's weight rather than a milligram for every plant in it.

What's in the other blends

Great Grains Blend (1.25g), the largest of the six: brown rice bran powder, organic flax seed powder and barley malt powder.

Green Grass Blend (700mg) is five cereal grasses — organic barley grass, organic kamut grass, organic oat grass, organic rye grass and organic wheat grass.

The rest of the Herbal Blend runs long: parsley (leaf), bee pollen, Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) root, aloe vera (leaf), astragalus (root), bilberry (leaf), ginger (root), ginkgo biloba (leaf), green tea (leaf), licorice (root), milk thistle (seed), peppermint (leaf), royal jelly, schisandra (berry) and stevia extract (leaf).

Fruit Blend (785mg): apple pectin powder, pineapple (fruit), grape skin extract and acerola juice powder. Vegetable Blend (265mg): beet juice powder (root), broccoli (florets), rhubarb juice powder (root) and spinach (leaf). Last on the panel, 98mg of fructooligosaccharides — FOS, a short chain of fructose units.

How it tastes and mixes

There's no added flavoring on this panel. Beside the six blends and the FOS, the only other ingredient is silica, which keeps the powder loose. The Herbal Blend includes a stevia extract powder (leaf). It tastes green and grassy, like what it's made of.

The label's own direction is apple juice; a smoothie works just as well. Two teaspoons is about 5g, and since it's sold by weight rather than volume, the powder may settle between uses.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants a wide greens powder rather than a single-plant one. It's vegetarian and lactose free, and at 20 calories it adds almost nothing to a day. Worth reading before you buy: bee pollen and royal jelly are both in the Herbal Blend, so this isn't vegan, and green tea powder is in there too.

How to use it

Adults mix two (2) teaspoons into 8 oz (237ml) of apple juice or other favorite liquid, or use as directed by a health care professional.

What's in it
