The three on the front
Black cohosh is a woodland perennial native to eastern North America, with a tall white flower spike and a knotted dark root. The root is the part used, here as an extract at 160 mg.
Red clover is the pink-purple pasture flower you'd walk past in any hayfield. What's used is the aerial parts — flowers and above-ground growth rather than root — and at 400 mg it's the largest row.
Sage is the grey-green kitchen herb from the spice rack, here as a leaf extract at 200 mg — the second-largest row.
The rest of the blend
Dong quai (150 mg) is an aromatic root long used in Chinese herbal practice. Licorice root (150 mg) is the sweet root of the licorice plant. Chasteberry (50 mg) is the small dark fruit of the chaste tree. Blessed thistle (50 mg) is a spiny Mediterranean herb, here as a whole-herb powder rather than an extract — as is the red raspberry fruit powder beside it. Soy isoflavones account for 30 mg and wild yam root extract for 15 mg. trans-Resveratrol closes the panel at 1 mg, drawn from Polygonum cuspidatum root — Japanese knotweed.
What the percentages mean
Six of the eleven rows carry a figure in brackets — (1%), (2.5%), (0.5%), (16%). That's the percentage the extract is standardized to; the milligrams beside it are the weight of extract in the capsule. The other five print none.
How it's taken
Two capsules a day, preferably with a meal. The shell is bovine gelatin, so these aren't vegetarian, and the allergen line reads soy, from the soy isoflavones. Microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide are the fill and flow agents that let a capsule fill evenly. There's no flavor to get past.
Who it's for
Anyone assembling a women's botanical routine who wants these herbs in one bottle rather than several, or who already buys black cohosh or red clover on its own and would rather not stack bottles. Talk to your physician first if you're pregnant, nursing, under 18, or have a medical condition — and skip it if you avoid soy or beef gelatin.
How to use it
Take 2 (two) capsules daily preferably with meals or as directed by a healthcare professional.
What's in it
Gelatin (bovine), Microcrystalline Cellulose, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide.
Contains: Soy.
