Two kinds of turmeric, and the difference matters
Most turmeric capsules give you one or the other. This panel lists both, as separate rows. The 800 mg row is Turmeric Root Powder — the dried, ground rhizome of Curcuma longa, the same spice that turns curry yellow, whole root with nothing concentrated out of it. The 100 mg row is Turmeric 95% Curcuminoids, an extract of that same root taken to the point where 95% of the extract is curcuminoids, the yellow pigment compounds turmeric is named for. That 95% is printed on the panel, not estimated here.
Alongside them sits 10 mg of BioPerine®. The panel lists it by its registered trade name and breaks it down no further, so neither do we.
The joint-category classics
Glucosamine Sulfate 2KCI, 200 mg — glucosamine is an amino sugar, a sugar molecule carrying a nitrogen group, here in its sulfate salt form. Chondroitin Sulfate, 50 mg — a long sugar chain of the type biologists call a glycosaminoglycan. MSM, 10 mg — short for methylsulfonylmethane, an organosulfur compound built around a single sulfur atom.
The botanical and enzyme side
Ginger Root Extract (Zingiber officinale), 100 mg — an extract of the same ginger rhizome sold in the produce aisle. Boswellia Extract (Boswellia carteri Birdw.)(resin), 40 mg — the dried resin of the Boswellia tree, the same tree that gives us frankincense.
Quercetin Dihydrate (Sophorae japonica L.)(flower), 8 mg — a flavonoid, one of the plant pigment compounds, from Japanese pagoda tree flower. L-Methionine, 8 mg — an essential sulfur-containing amino acid, one your body can't make and has to get from food. Bromelain (Ananas comosus)(stem), 8 mg — a group of enzymes found in the stem of the pineapple plant.
How it's taken
Two capsules, once a day, 20-30 minutes before a meal. The shell is hypromellose — a plant-derived vegetable capsule, no gelatin — on a rice flour base. Nothing to mix and no flavour to get past.
One thing to flag plainly
The glucosamine and chondroitin here are shellfish-derived, and the label says so: Contains Shellfish (Crab, Lobster and Crawfish). If shellfish is off the table for you, this isn't your bottle, and we'd rather say that up here than in the small print.
Who it's for
Anyone who'd rather buy one bottle than eight. Turmeric, curcuminoid extract, glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, boswellia, ginger, quercetin and bromelain bought separately is a crowded shelf and a much bigger receipt. Panel-readers are well served here too: every plant part, Latin name and milligram is spelled out.
How to use it
As a dietary supplement take two (2) capsules once a day. For best results take 20-30 min before a meal or as directed by your healthcare professional.
