The two on the front of the bottle
Saw palmetto is a low fan palm, Serenoa repens, that grows wild across the southeastern United States. The part used is the fruit — a small dark berry — and it's the ingredient most associated with this category. Here it's 300 mg per serving.
Pygeum africanum is a tall evergreen from the highlands of Africa, and what's extracted is the bark. This extract is standardized to 3% phytosterols; phytosterols are the sterol-class molecules plants build in their own tissue, and standardizing means the extract is made to hit that figure rather than whatever a batch happens to carry. 200 mg per serving.
The rest of the panel
Grape seed extract, 100 mg, comes from the seeds of Vitis vinifera, the common wine grape. Pumpkin seed extract, 100 mg, is from Cucurbita moschata, the same squash group as butternut. Nettle extract, 50 mg, is drawn from the leaf of stinging nettle.
Boron, 10 mg, is a trace mineral, supplied here as an amino acid chelate: the mineral bound to amino acids. Lycopene at 10 mg (5%) is the red carotenoid pigment of the tomato, Lycopersicum esculentum.
Two vitamins round the formula out. Vitamin E appears as dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate at 25 mg, 167% DV; the acetate ester is the shelf-stable form of vitamin E. Vitamin B6 appears as pyridoxine hydrochloride at 13.8 mg, 812% DV.
How it's taken
Two capsules daily with 6-8 oz of water — no taste, no powder, no measuring. One thing to say plainly: the shell here is gelatin, not cellulose, so this formula isn't vegetarian or vegan. Brown rice flour is the only other ingredient. Keep the bottle in a cool, dry place.
Who it's for
Men shopping the prostate aisle who'd rather have saw palmetto, pygeum, nettle, pumpkin seed, grape seed, boron and lycopene on one panel than seven bottles on a shelf. Every amount is printed in milligrams, nothing folded into a proprietary blend, so you can compare this label line by line against any other.
How to use it
As a dietary supplement, adults take two (2) capsules daily. For best results, take with 6-8 oz (177-237ml) of water or as directed by healthcare professional.
What's in it
Gelatin (capsule), Brown Rice Flour.
