What you get in every serving

  • Proprietary Oil Blend — 400 mg
  • The five ingredients in that blend: Menthol USP, Peppermint Essential Oil, Mullein Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Lavender Essential Oil
  • 2 ml per serving, which the panel counts as 40 drops
  • 30 servings in a 2 fl oz (60 ml) bottle
  • Non-GMO and allergen free

The panel prints one amount — 400 mg for the blend as a whole. The five ingredients inside it aren't broken out individually, so you won't find per-ingredient figures here either.

Inside the oil blend

Menthol USP is the crystalline compound behind mint's cold bite. "USP" is a grade: it means the material is made to the United States Pharmacopeia's published standard for identity and purity.

Peppermint Essential Oil is the distilled oil of the peppermint leaf, and it's where the flavour on the bottle comes from.

Mullein Oil is the first name on the bottle. Mullein is a tall biennial with soft, felted, silver-green leaves and a long spike of yellow flowers — a familiar roadside plant across Europe and North America, and a herb that's had far more attention lately than it has shelf space.

Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil is oil from the peel of the sweet orange; the panel uses the INCI name, where dulcis is simply Latin for sweet.

Lavender Essential Oil is the distilled oil of lavender flowers.

Why an MCT oil base

Other Ingredients on this panel is one line long: MCT Oil. That's the carrier — medium-chain triglycerides, a fat built from shorter chains than the fats in most cooking oils, and liquid at room temperature.

The reason it's an oil at all is simple chemistry. Essential oils don't dissolve in water, so an oil-based tincture needs an oil to sit in. MCT is light and neutral enough not to fight with peppermint. There's no alcohol here, no glycerin, no water, no sweetener and no added flavouring — the panel names nothing beyond the blend and the MCT.

How it tastes and how it's taken

Peppermint, unmistakably, with menthol behind it and a lift of orange peel and lavender at the edges. Forty drops is a real mouthful of mint, so it's a strong, cool, clean flavour rather than a subtle one. Shake the bottle before every serving — oils separate — then squeeze the dropper straight into your mouth, or stir the 2 ml into water, tea or juice if you'd rather dilute it. Once a day, in the morning.

Who it's for

Anyone who'd rather take a herbal oil as drops than swallow another capsule. Anyone shopping specifically for mullein, which gets talked about far more often than it turns up in a liquid. And anyone who wants the amount visible rather than assumed — forty drops from a dropper, the same forty drops every morning. Non-GMO, allergen free, and thirty servings, which is a month at one a day.

How to use it

Shake well before use. Adults take 2 ml (40 drops) orally once daily, preferably in the morning. Dispense directly into the mouth or mix with a beverage.

What's in it

MCT Oil.
