What ox bile actually is
Worth saying plainly, because the name does no one any favours. Ox bile powder is exactly what it sounds like: dried bile sourced from cattle, the same class of ingredient that has been used in supplement form for decades. The panel standardizes it to 40% cholic acid — cholic acid being the principal bile acid, and the marker compound this ingredient is measured against. At 125 mg a serving, it's one of the three figures the label leads with.
It is animal-derived, and so is the capsule, which is gelatin. This product is not vegan or vegetarian, and we'd rather you read that here than find it out after it arrives.
The plant side
Artichoke extract is the headline at 500 mg — leaf extract from Cynara scolymus, the globe artichoke, the same thistle whose flower bud turns up on a dinner plate. The leaf, not the bud, is the part used here.
The 300 mg proprietary blend is two South Asian botanicals: Terminalia chebula fruit extract, from a tree widely grown across the region, and Sphaeranthus indicus flower extract, a small flowering herb. As with any proprietary blend, the panel gives the 300 mg total and not the split between them — so neither do we.
Slippery elm bark extract closes the list at 40 mg. It's the bark of the slippery elm tree, a long-standing North American botanical named for the mucilage — a soft, gel-like plant fibre — the bark is known for.
DigeZyme® is a trademarked ingredient, listed here at 50 mg. Its own composition isn't broken out on this panel, so we're not going to invent one for it.
How it's taken
Two capsules daily with 6-8 oz of water. No powder, no flavour, nothing to mix — the fill is brown rice flour and magnesium stearate in a gelatin capsule.
Who it's for
People who already know what they're looking for. Ox bile and artichoke are specific, well-known ingredients in the digestive category, and this pairs them at 125 mg and 500 mg respectively rather than hiding them in a long undosed blend. Gluten free and non-GMO, if either is on your list.
How to use it
Adults take two (2) capsules daily. For best results, take with 6-8 oz (177-237ml) of water or as directed by healthcare professional.
What's in it
Gelatin (Capsule), Brown Rice Flour, Magnesium Stearate.
