What the blend figure does and doesn't tell you

This panel prints one number — 1532 mg — and then the eleven ingredients that make it up, in the manufacturer's order. It does not print how much of each. Psyllium husk and acai lead that list and lycopene closes it, but the individual amounts aren't on the label, so we're not going to invent them.

Psyllium husk and acai

Psyllium is the husk of the Plantago ovata seed, and it's one of the most familiar names in the fiber aisle. The husk is a soluble fiber: largely non-digestible carbohydrate that takes up water and thickens, which is why it's normally sold as a powder you stir and drink fast.

Acai is Euterpe oleracea, a tall palm from the Amazon floodplain. The fruit is a small dark purple berry, and what's in here is an extract of that fruit rather than the freeze-dried pulp you'd find in a smoothie bowl.

The other nine

Inulin is a soluble plant fiber. Slippery elm bark is the bark of Ulmus rubra, a North American elm. Aloe ferox is a South African aloe, printed on this panel as Aloe ferox Powder Alion 18% (leaf). Chlorella vulgaris is a single-celled green freshwater algae. Black walnut hulls powder is the outer hull of the nut — the reason this bottle carries a tree nut allergen line. Ginger root is Zingiber officinale, the same rhizome used in cooking. Hyssop is the aerial part of Hyssopus officinalis, a mint-family herb. Papaya fruit powder is Carica papaya. And lycopene 5% is the red carotenoid pigment found in tomatoes.

How it's taken

The directions are specific: two capsules a day, but split — one during the day and one in the evening — repeated daily, and not more than two in any day. The capsule shell is hypromellose, a plant-cellulose material, which is what makes this vegan and vegetarian; magnesium stearate is the only other ingredient.

Who it's for

Anyone who'd rather take psyllium as part of a capsule blend than stir a glass of powder, and anyone who'd rather have acai, ginger, papaya, chlorella and slippery elm on one panel than buy them separately. Vegans and vegetarians. Not for anyone avoiding tree nuts.

How to use it

As a dietary supplement, take two (2) capsules once a day. For best results, take one (1) capsule during the day and one (1) capsule in the evening. Repeat the process daily. Do not exceed two capsules per day.

What's in it

Hypromellose (vegetable capsule), Magnesium Stearate.

Contains: Tree Nuts (Black Walnut Hull).

60 Capsules · 30 Servings · Serving size 2 capsules
