Why psyllium is the headline
Psyllium is the husk that surrounds the seed of Plantago ovata, a plant grown mostly in India. It's a soluble fiber, which in plain terms means it takes up water and turns gel-like rather than staying loose in the glass — the same husk behind the plain fiber powders that have been in pharmacy aisles for decades. What's different here is what it's been put next to, and that you're getting 3000mg of it already measured out instead of levelling a spoon.
That gel behaviour is also why the directions tell you to drink it immediately. Mixed and left standing, psyllium thickens in the glass. Mix, drink, done.
The other three lines on the panel
Tamarind fruit extract comes from the pod of Tamarindus indica, a tree in the legume family whose sour pulp is a kitchen staple across South Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. It's here at 60mg.
The digestive enzyme blend is 30mg from fermented cereals, and the panel names its four enzymes without splitting the milligrams between them: amylase, lactase, lipase and cellulase. Enzyme names are simply chemistry — amylase is named for starch, lactase for lactose (the sugar in milk), lipase for lipids, cellulase for cellulose, the structural fiber in plant cell walls.
Ginger root extract is the smallest line at 15mg. Ginger is the rhizome — the underground stem — of Zingiber officinale Roscoe, the same root sold fresh in the produce section.
How it tastes and mixes
Raspberry, and the sweetness comes from stevia leaf extract rather than sugar or a sugar alcohol. Citric acid gives it the tartness raspberry wants, and silicon dioxide keeps the powder loose in the sachet. Into 6.8 fl oz of water it goes clear-flavoured and simple — no shaker bottle needed, a spoon and a glass will do, as long as you drink it straight away.
Who it's for
Anyone adding fiber to their day who'd rather it came pre-measured, one sachet at a time, than out of a tub. Anyone who wants raspberry and stevia instead of an unflavoured powder. Vegans and anyone eating gluten free — both claims are on the label. Sachets suit travel and a desk drawer far better than a canister does.
