The two seaweeds

Irish moss is Chondrus crispus, a red seaweed that grows on rocky North Atlantic shorelines. Sea moss is the name it sells under now — same plant, newer word. The panel specifies whole plant, so what's in the capsule is the whole thallus rather than an isolated fraction of it.

Most sea moss on the market arrives as a jar of gel that lives in the fridge and gets spooned into a smoothie. This is the dried plant in a capsule instead, at a fixed 500mg every single time, which takes the guesswork and the refrigerator shelf out of it.

Bladderwrack is Fucus vesiculosus, a brown seaweed named for the little air bladders that keep its fronds standing up in the water. Whole plant again, 500mg again — it's matched to the Irish moss rather than sprinkled in behind it.

The root and the pepper

Burdock is Arctium lappa, a thistle-family plant with broad leaves and a long taproot. The root is the part on this panel, at 400mg. It's the same vegetable sold as gobo in Japanese grocers, where it's eaten as food rather than taken as a supplement — long, thin and earthy.

BioPerine® is a branded black pepper extract and the smallest number on the label at 5mg. Piper nigrum is the pepper vine; the "fruit" the panel names is the peppercorn itself. It's also the only one of the four not marked as organically grown.

How it's taken

Two capsules, once a day, 20-30 minutes before a meal. Nothing to blend, no taste of the sea, no gel to stir into anything.

The capsule is pullulan — a polysaccharide made by fermentation and used to form plant-based shells — and that's the entire other-ingredients line: no fillers, no gelatin. Four ingredients in the panel and one shell around them.

Who it's for

Anyone who's seen sea moss everywhere and would rather not commit to a jar of gel. Anyone who wants bladderwrack and burdock with it instead of buying three bottles — the three are usually spoken of together, and this keeps them together at doses you can read off the label. And anyone eating vegan or avoiding gluten, since the shell is plant-derived and the claim set says so.

How to use it

As a dietary supplement take two (2) capsules once a day. For best results take 20-30 min before a meal or as directed by your healthcare professional.
